The artisan portrays in the traditional pottery pieces spontaneous elements of the Alentejo countryside creating unique pieces.
Using red clay and the traditional techniques of pottery from the Alentejo region, Concha Gaivão produces drawings, prints, incisions and scrapings, mainly depicting spontaneous elements from the Alentejo countryside.
The pieces are worked in the raw and the drawing is sgraffitied in the engobe, leaving the underlying red clay uncovered in a well-defined line of contour characteristic of the artisan’s expression.
This is followed by painting with high-fire paint, then the first firing of chacotte and finally the firing of the glass (980°/1020° C).
Useful or decorative, the pieces are totally handmade and differentiated by a personalised interpretation, which makes them unique.
