The special technique of embroidering is rooted in traditional embroidery of this craftsman
In Džidža’s shop, in the historic centre of Mostar, one can find works of art with embroidery, which are the work of the hardworking hands of the “Šin” Authors’ Group.
The characteristic of srma embroidery is reflected in the fact that the thread used to knit has a very thin shining thread, and the observer has a different experience of the work depending on the light. It can be said that this kind of artistic work changes from morning to evening. Each work requires several months of production and is of great value.
The works have a lot of symbolism and meaning. They often have the form of levha (calligraphic quotations from the Koran) or depict nature.
The special technique of embroidering is rooted in traditional embroidery in these areas. The master craftsman began to practice this craft in 1993, having inherited one srma thread from his deceased wife. In addition, he gathered around himself lovers of this type of art, and held embroidery courses for ten years, thus training almost 200 women of different ages.
