El Retorn is a non-profit cultural association founded in 2003, whose main purpose is the recovery of traditional crafts and popular crafts from Ibiza and Formentera.
Since its inception, El Retorn recovers the tradition of making traditional objects, thus preventing cultural knowledge from being lost and showing the great wealth of our Intangible Cultural Heritage. Its main objective is to recover the ancestral techniques used for the elaboration of the most common belongings used in the houses of the rural area of the Pitiusas and in the main population centers, such as the “espardenyes” braiding, esparto footwear; basketry; wool carding; traditional jewelry or the making of garnishes for chivalry.
Work is also being done on the recovery of part of the folklore tradition, animated by the music of some instruments, carved with geometric and natural motifs, among which the enormous castanets, which are larger than the ones used, stand out for their peculiar burst of sound. in no other traditional dance and also the drums, flutes and “xeremies”.
The same motifs also appear in traditional clothing, both daily and on holidays and in rich shawls of imported fabrics.
