Filomena Arlete Barbosa, 59, has been self-employed since she was 21 and has had her own business in the confectionery area, producing sweets, jellies, candied sweets, doughnuts, etc. Trained in the art of working leather and leather, she started to make handbags, shoes, necklaces and earrings and various items of handicraft.

Currently, she has a partnership with her two daughters, producing articles for exhibition and sale at the Cidade Velha Cultural Centre. She has also participated in fairs at national and international level, representing Cidade Velha and Cape Verde.
