The artisan produces cloth dolls that represent the daily life of the people of Cidade Velha
Maria Madalena Mendes da Moura Évora is an artisan trained in handicrafts, cutting and sewing. She makes cloth dolls that represent the daily life of the people of Cidade Velha, among other objects such as marine species, magnets, hair accessories, etc. However, the strong point of the artisan is the Bocas de Pano (Cloth Mouths).
She dedicates 100% of her time to handicrafts, and the making of the dolls is her greatest source of income.
These works – wallets, purses, hats, key rings, among others – most of them made with African cloth “Djila”, can be found on display and for sale at the Cidade Velha Cultural Centre.
She is building her career as a craftswoman and has the certification “Professional Recognition of Craftsman”, being able to represent Cape Verde in national and international fairs.
