The artisans at Azulart are dedicated to producing artistic tiles in classic and contemporary styles
Local tile production only took on a certain importance in the second half of the 19th century, when the first ceramics factories were founded on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira. These locally produced tiles covered the façades of urban buildings and the walls of chapels in historiated compositions in shades of cobalt blue, or in symmetrical compositions, known as ‘carpet’ tiles, with geometric and floral designs on plain tiles with stamps or relief tiles using the mould technique.
Within the framework of current production, we must take into account the interesting independent work carried out by our artisans who produce artistic tiles in a classic or contemporary style, integrated into decorative panels, combined with the production of other ornamental or domestic pieces, or even as individual pieces.
